I will head the committee of the Peace ONE DAY, Global Truce 2013 http://peaceoneday.org/, Shinnyo-en cards
guided reflection http://www.sef.org/resources/
Pinwheels-4- Peace http://www.pinwheelsforpeace.com/pinwheelsforpeace/pinwheel_template.html.
I will make pinwheels with interested parties at my school (possible ones
included in this e-mail) and will be a resource- with an online lesson plan- to
the” Greater OKC Community.” I will not be able to pick-up or store pinwheels.
(No storage space, no funding for gas and no time) This year, I am supervising
the Casady Student Center and might be helping the after school program. Little
flexibility to leave campus. I will ask Rev. Long if there is a place to store
pinwheels as early as the week before the installation of the giant Pinwheels
for Peace Walking Labyrinth.
The value of the pinwheel is in our reflection on inner peace, our role in
the creation of a kinder community around us, and our connection to global peace
through the art and creativity expressed in the pinwheel. Walking, at leisure,
through the pinwheel labyrinth looking at our collective, intergenerational
thoughts will be a great experience. May I suggest that every participating
organization and individual should pledge, not only the $25 sponsorship fee, but
a comfortable number of pinwheels made by members of their organizations as a
way of raising awareness in their own communities.
Why is this day important? Check out the Peace One Day Global Truce 2012 results: http://peaceoneday.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Peace-Day-2012-Results-from-Peace-One-Day.pdf;

Other IDP Resources
The Shinnyo-en Foundation reflection cards (http://www.sef.org/resources/) are now available online. The Six Billion
Paths to Peace initiative is now a club and the Shinnyo-en Foundation is in the
process of renaming it " Service at the Heart of the Shinnyo-en Foundation" http://www.sef.org/who-we-are/our-paradigm-of-service/. See
Casady IDP 2010 with Shinnyo-en Foundation on campus( http://www.sef.org/media/).
The first clip was the inspiration for Youth LEAD OKC, a cultural competency
youth board that focuses on building skills for life in OKC teens of diverse
backgrounds. I contacted the Orange County Executive Director of OCIYF and he
suggested not to re-invent the wheel and connect to Youth LEAD online http://youthleadonline.org/ for the foundation of the OKC
board. Casady Service-Learning in collaboration with the YMCA sponsored
the YLOKC 2013 Communication and Facilitation modules training during National
Volunteer Week: http://casadycommunityservice-learning.blogspot.com/2013/04/click-to-play-this-smilebox-photo-album.html

Pinwheels for Peace (http://www.pinwheelsforpeace.com/pinwheelsforpeace/home.html). Suggested time to make PW-P: 9/11-9/21: http://www.wetheworld.org/home.htm) . Consider bringing
pinwheels to OCU to mark the path of a
giant Peace Walking Labyrinth especially designed for the OCU Peace Festival.
The OCU Multicultural Festival will be Friday, September 20, from 4-8 PM with a
very special MC, Aly Akers, former Miss OSU and CEO of PAST-Prevent and Stop

E-mail from Jeremy Gilley on Peace Poem Competition and educational resources
Dear Teacher,
With exactly three months to go until Peace Day 2013 we are so excited to share our newest update! Our Primary Education Resource – kindly underwritten by Ocado – now has several new lesson plans.
The lesson plans, the activities within them, and the supporting resources have been designed to engage all primary ages to provide every child with the opportunity to become active in the build up to Peace Day, 21 September.
New additions include a tried and tested, hands-on activity for pupils around our 2013 theme ‘Who Will You Make Peace With?’ and a beautiful ‘Poem for Peace’ lesson plan, for which Ocado have just launched an amazing competition especially for UK primary schools.
The Poem for Peace lesson will be featured as ‘Resource of the week’ in next week’s edition of the TES, the UK’s most subscribed teaching magazine, due to its depth of engagement. Children will be inspired writers from the word go, with an introduction video from leading children’s author, Francesca Simon, known best for her Horrid Henry books – now a popular TV series. From there the lesson plan provides all support resources and ideas to fire your pupils’ imagination and the Ocado competition will motivate them to produce their very best.
The winner and three family members will be at the Peace Palace to see an incredible line-up of international artists, including Carlinhos Brown (Brazil), Miguel Bosé (Spain), The Feeling (UK), Jahméne Douglas (UK) and Kane (Netherlands) and other special guests, along with flights and two nights’ accommodation. The winning poem will also be printed on tea towels and sold through Ocado – with all profits going to Peace One Day. And four lucky runners-up will each win £200 of Ocado vouchers!
The Poem for Peace lesson is perfect in supporting your post-SATs planning, as well as encouraging children to support Peace Day while showing off their best literacy skills before the summer break.
Access our newly updated Primary Education Resource now and inspire your peace-making poets! We look forward to reading their best Poems for Peace and hearing your school’s plans to mark Peace Day this year!
Thank you for your continued support.
In peace,
Jeremy
